Hopes and Dreams and Cleaning House

If The Lorix Chronicles were my home, then I would need to clean house (and possibly add an addition or two).  Thank goodness it’s not, because my real home is a disaster and if I wanted to add to it, I’d have to save up for 13 years to put in a 10-square foot closet.

(Isn’t she cute?  She’s all happy about vacuuming and dancing-while-cleaning.  This is the opposite of me.)

However, this blog does need a makeover, so in the next week or two, you’ll see some changes.

There’s a growing community of followers of The Lorix Chronicles, and I want the blog to be welcoming to anyone who wants to join our community.   I’ve changed my About page so that it’s not so much about me, but what the reader will take away from visiting the page.  Take a peek and let me know what you think. Does it accurately reflect what this blog is all about?  Anything you would change?

Next on the agenda is to revisit old posts and liven them up: add photos and links, shorten them so they’re more reader-friendly, or break them up into shorter, separate segments.  I mean, who has time to read a novel-length post?

I’ll also spruce things up, so to speak.  You may notice I’ve purchased my own domain name, so the web address is now thelorixchronicles.com (don’t worry, the WordPress address will still bring you here).  My tag-line up there below the blog title changed from “Me, Myself, and Motherhood” (which screamed “boring, selfish, and uninteresting”) to “Messy, Crazy, Beautiful Life.”  I’m sure that will draw in my “target” audience.  I’ll clean up fonts and colors so they’re matchy-matchy and enticing to my readers.  The side bar will be organized, and I’ll try to figure out all these widget-ish things (pretty sure that’s a technical term).

In addition, I’ll write more often.  There are so many blog challenges, prompts, and events in which I can get involved, like this one from The Daily Post.  I’ll share some of my own photography, and write more witty and humorous (read: snarky and sarcastic) posts like this one.  I’ll start a monthly “community post,” where either a guest writer is featured, or a question is asked and answered by my readers.  I might even post a few photos of the inside of my house, so the rest of you can feel good about the inside of your house (because your house is much cleaner -or- because yours isn’t the only one that looks like a junk show).

Finally, one little confession.  There’s a part of me that wants to add a little artsy/crafty stuff every now and then.  It makes me shiver with disgust because hordes of bloggers post their “awesome” crafts and make the rest of us feel like losers because we aren’t making greenhouses out of trampolines (which, let’s admit, is  awesome, and yes, we’re jealous).  I’ll try not to be annoying, but lately my creative side has come to the surface more than usual.  So bear with me.  Who knows, you may find yourself amazed at how similar I am to Martha Stewart.

And now, for your contribution.  What do you want to see on The Lorix Chronicles?  More importantly, what don’t you want to see?  Are you going to stop following the blog if there are craft-tastic posts?  Please comment below or send me an email.  And, as always, please share, share, share!
